Blacktop (hot mix) driveway paving

Well, we decided to do our part to stimulate the economy, whether we could afford it or not! The contractor, M. Carroll Blacktop Service was here in the North Lake Travis area doing a much larger job and had a few truck loads of hot mix left over and made us deal we couldn't refuse. He stopped by our place about 1:00 PM and by 5:00 PM we had 450 feet of driveway installed and they did a very nice job. You can see the whole process in the video below:

That looks great, they did our paved street with a Slurry Seal a few months ago and I videoed it, sure makes a great record of the work.

Ya, it looks great when new; what about six months from now?
M. Carroll showed up here one evening with a crap story that he was paving on the freeway and had asphalt left over. Needing a few hundred square feet of coverage infront of a car port, I okayed the job. His crew immediately showed up with the equipement, adequate, but definately not something that anyone would work on a freeway with. I was dumb enough to let him continue down the driveway. It looked great at first, but within a couple of months it was all cracks. This is largely due to lack of subsurface preparation. He won't even show up to look at the poor work.
This outfit lends a whole new meaning to "Fly by Night"!

Sorry you had problems. We have had just the opposite experience. It will be 4 years old in a few months and still looks great, new, in fact. I seal coated it for the first time last summer. A few cracks is normal. You just caulk them before you seal coat and it's as good as new.

You are right Matt, it must be a mix up. I think it has been 7 years on ours now and it is still perfect. Thanks for the great job. I've got a new driveway ready to pour if you guys do concrete too. Call me if you can do it. It's about 20 yards.
